Little Crawlers | Insects, Arachnids, Annelids & Myriapods Unit Study
There is a whole world unfolding just beneath our feet in the garden, under stones, along the bark of trees. Our Little Crawlers unit study invites your child to slow down and truly look, to learn the names and habits of the small creatures that share our world, and to grow in wonder at the intricate lives of ten remarkable critters.
This Charlotte Mason inspired unit study covers insects, arachnids, annelids, and myriapods through rich illustrated pages, hands on activities, and living book style content designed to spark curiosity in children from Kindergarten through Grade 5.
What’s included:
🐛 65 page Unit Study: 10 individual critter studies featuring classification, life span, habitat, diet, fun facts, vocabulary, life cycle diagrams, and open ended activity suggestions. Critters include the Ladybug, Butterfly, Spider, Ant, Grasshopper, Mosquito, Earthworm, Cockroach, Millipede, and Scorpion.
📋 40 page Review & Activity Unit: Designed to be used alongside or after the study. Includes word wall matching, fill in the blank, true or false, count and graph, ABC bug ordering, bug scramble, sorting and classification, compare and contrast Venn diagrams, creative writing prompts, a bug research project, art and craft ideas, an observing insects page, and a full teacher guide.
🃏 Critter Flashcards: Included with all options. Ten illustrated info cards, one per critter, perfect for review, tray work, or nature table display. *Please note that for the printed & bound version, flash cards will come printed in one of your booklets and will not be cut out and laminated. We are working on providing this service for you but we aren't up to par on fancy printed flash cards yet.
Also included in the review unit:
• Observation Record sheets
• My Critter foldable booklet
• Bug Dictionary activity
• Cut out bug figures for hands on sorting and play
What does this look like at each grade?
This unit is written with tiered content so that siblings can learn together while working at their own level. Here is what you should expect from each level:
🌱 Kindergarten: Your little one will listen to the critter pages read aloud, narrate back what they noticed, trace or copy a single word or short phrase, and use the cut out bugs for hands on sorting play. Activities are picture based and oral first.
📖 Grade 1–2: Early readers will begin reading short sections independently, copy one or two sentences of copywork, answer simple comprehension questions in their own words, and complete activities like true or false and the life cycle colouring pages.
✏️ Grade 3–4: Students work more independently through the vocabulary pages, fill in the blank activities, compare and contrast Venn diagrams, and begin forming written narrations and responses to the creative writing prompts.
🔬 Grade 5: Older students dig into the bug research project, write from multiple prompts, complete the word wall matching and bug scramble activities, and are encouraged to synthesize their learning through independent written responses and nature journal entries.
All grade levels can participate together through read aloud, discussion, and exploration as a family, then branch off to complete activities suited to each child.

from 232 reviewsMy son loves this! We did so many different activities with the toppings (used it for math activities: graph bars / fractions ex: putting ceratin toppings on half pizza, etc. )
I love how this sensory tray can be used for multiple activities like a fish bowl, snow globe.
This tray is the cutest! When my little one saw this, he went crazy! The best!
This tray is super cute! Especially for doing activities on bugs. Looking forward to the clear tray insert as well.
Excited to be using the single lined writing bars this will make my little one’s life easier instead of me having to write the lines.
This is a total gem for the homeschool mom!
This tray is so fun and just begging to be played with! Filling this one with sensory filler is extra special with all the different spaces and we have used it for school to organize information! Love the large size !
I absolutely love this tray! It’s very big, plenty of space to write and play. The two parts are amazing for school work and the tray is just beautiful! I’m so happy I got this one!
This mini popcorn tray is so cute! I plan to use it in a variety of ways for our homeschool. Its size makes it compact and easy to store when I’m prepping lessons for the week. Taking our learning off the page makes school exciting for my kiddos and AW & Co helps make it happen!
I am more impressed with each order I place! The quality of their wooden trays and stamps are impeccable and I love the variety of acrylic shapes! Their resources Have a staple in our home learning

Love that these can be used for all kinds of monster activities, yeti in the winter, monsters inc, Halloween play of course! They’re great to match and count a number of eyes or teeth or can be used as characters or name letters etc! They’re a great size as well!
The little chocolate chips/ gumdrops are the perfect size to use as counters or to write on! They can be used as prompts for matching upper/lower case, in flip games , or to decorate cookies/ sweaters/houses. The versatility and quality are beautiful!
AW & Co has quickly become one of our favorite educational resources for young children. Their tools are beautifully designed, thoughtfully created, and truly engaging without being overwhelming. I love that the materials encourage curiosity, hands-on learning, and independent exploration—perfect for early childhood development.
As a mom of young kids, I really appreciate how AW & Co balances education with play. The activities feel intentional yet fun, and my children stay engaged far longer than with most learning tools we’ve tried. Everything feels high-quality, durable, and clearly made with families in mind.
If you’re looking for educational tools that support learning while still honoring childhood, creativity, and play, AW & Co is a wonderful investment. Highly recommend for parents, homeschoolers, and early learners alike.
